Frequently Asked Questions

Whether you're newly diagnosed, a caregiver, or simply curious, we're here to help you navigate the ins and outs of Type 1 diabetes. Read on to find answers to your burning questions.

Type 1 diabetes is a chronic autoimmune condition where the immune system attacks and destroys insulin-producing cells in the pancreas. This results in little to no insulin production, leading to high blood glucose/sugar levels. Unlike Type 2 diabetes, Type 1 diabetes is not caused by lifestyle factors and cannot be prevented.

Managing Type 1 diabetes involves a combination of insulin therapy, monitoring blood glucose/sugar levels, following a healthy diet, engaging in regular physical activity, and staying informed about the condition. Individuals with Type 1 diabetes use insulin injections or insulin pumps to regulate their blood glucose/sugar levels.

Common symptoms of Type 1 diabetes include frequent urination, excessive thirst, unexplained weight loss, fatigue, irritability, blurred vision, and increased hunger. If you or someone you know is experiencing these symptoms, it's essential to seek medical attention promptly for diagnosis and treatment.

Currently, there is no cure for Type 1 diabetes. However, with proper management and treatment, individuals with Type 1 diabetes can lead full and healthy lives. Ongoing research is focused on finding ways to prevent or cure Type 1 diabetes, but until then, managing the condition effectively is the key.

Supporting someone with Type 1 diabetes involves being understanding, encouraging, and informed about their condition. You can offer practical support by helping them monitor blood glucose levels, reminding them to take insulin, and providing emotional support. Additionally, advocating for better access to healthcare and resources for individuals with Type 1 diabetes can make a significant difference.
